  9.  AB    Hematological abnormalities, characterized by cytopenias, are a problem
  10.        commonly encountered by persons with HIV or AIDS. Cytopenias can be
  11.        multifactorial in their causation and potentially life threatening to
  12.        this population. An understanding of the various causes of these
  13.        cytopenias and the appropriate nursing care are tantamount to nursing
  14.        practice and to ensure quality of life. Goals of medical and nursing
  15.        care are directed at assessment, interventions, and patient education to
  16.        prevent or minimize the complications of hematological abnormalities.
  17.        This article reviews current knowledge regarding the causes,
  18.        pathophysiology, treatments, and nursing care of HIV/AIDS-related
  19.        hematological abnormalities.
